On Saturday 28th September 1996 Frankie Dettori made sporting history by winning all seven races at the Ascot Festival that day.
Bookmakers suffered their biggest loss in history as Frankie rode a 25,092-1 accumulator !! The Observer newspaper story.
The last race of the day saw Frankie ride Fujiyama Crest. This started at odds of 2-1, having been predicted to start in the morning papers at 12-1 such was the amount of money that had been placed on this horse and jockey combination. Frankie's friend and fellow jockey Simon Whitworth was riding the favourite 'Durham' in that last race. Immediately after which, in the weighing-in room, Frankie signed Simon's own Race Card Dettori 7.
In an act of great generosity, Simon, a supporter of London Irish Rugby Club has given this unique Race Card to raise money for Jarrod Cunningham's S.A.L.S.A. Foundation, via his fellow supporters. Details of the various fund raising activities can be found on the supporters' web site, The Craic.
The signed Race Card comes in good mostly good condition, however there is a small amount of damage caused by flying champagne !!
